National theater facade restoration works and construction of the new annex is coming to the end

“The restoration of the facade of the Latvian National Theater is almost completed, and on the Latvian Century Latvian National Theater will be able to expect a fully restored facade, which will not lose its glory even in the evening, because now it will be also illuminated with decorative lighting. During the project, all facade sculptures and Riga City coat of arms have been restored. Improvements have also been made to the terrace of the building, preventing from the damage the railing and the vents of the terrace, by cleansing the cracks and filling with the restoration composition. In turn, the terrace floors will be repaired with waterproofing composition and the cover laid there will be restored. All works planned for the project have been made within the specified deadlines”, informed Ainārs Leitēns, Chairman of the Board of VELVE.

In turn, in order to ensure the accessibility of the Latvian National Theater environment, a new three-story outbuilding with a total area of 203 m2 is being built. The outbuilding facade is designed in the same way as the existing outbuilding of the theater's new hall, by using a similar finishing materials and glazing, preserving the uniform style of the whole theater building. The new outbuilding is being constructed on the side of the canal, with a suitable entrance for the people with reduced mobility. In the outbuilding will be also built a lift to allow the people with reduced mobility to enter the theater halls, there will be specially adapted toilet facilities, wardrobe and also a new cafe available to all visitors. Construction of the outbuilding is planned to be completed in autumn 2017.
